Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 20, 2026
This policy describes how Evore Stories collects, uses, and protects personal information when you use our website and membership features. For rules about using the site and your membership, see our Terms of Service.
Overview
Evore Stories ("we," "us," or "our") operates evore.net and related services where readers can browse serialized fiction, create accounts, manage memberships, read protected chapters, use optional narration, and participate in community features such as comments and fan art. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
By using the site, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
Information we collect
We collect information in these ways:
Account information you provide — When you register, we collect your name, email address, and a securely hashed password. If you enable two-factor authentication, we store the data needed to verify your sign-in codes. If you request an email change, we store the pending new address and verification token until the change is confirmed or expires.
Sign-in with Google or X — If you choose social sign-in, we receive profile information from that provider (such as your name, email address, and profile image, depending on what the provider shares).
Membership and billing — If you link a Patreon account, we store your Patreon user ID, OAuth tokens needed to keep your membership in sync, and your mapped membership tier on Evore. If you subscribe through Stripe on the site, we store Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, subscription status, price information, and related billing metadata needed to grant access and manage your membership.
Comments — If you post chapter comments or fan art comments, we store the comment text, your account identity, and timestamps.
Fan art — If you submit fan art, we store the image file, title, description, hashtags, moderation status, gallery visibility choices, and interaction data such as likes, dislikes, and reports associated with your submissions. Approved images selected for the public gallery are stored at publicly accessible URLs so they can be displayed to visitors.
Reading and narration activity — We may store narration progress (such as your place in a chapter) in your account so you can resume where you left off. Reading settings such as font and size are stored in your browser's local storage on your device. If you use server-generated narration (such as OpenAI or Piper when enabled), the text of the paragraph you request may be sent to that provider to generate audio.
Moderation and enforcement — If your account is restricted, we may store ban records, reasons, durations, and related audit information tied to your account or email address.
Transactional email — We process your email address when we send verification, password reset, security, membership, moderation, or other account-related messages.
Usage analytics — We use Vercel Web Analytics to collect aggregated information about page views, referrers, browsers, devices, and general site usage. This helps us understand how the Service is used and improve it.
Technical data — Like most websites, our hosting infrastructure may automatically log technical information such as IP address, browser type, device information, and pages visited. This helps us operate, secure, and troubleshoot the service.
How we use your information
We use personal information to:
- Create and manage your account
- Verify your email and protect account security
- Provide access to stories and chapters based on your membership tier
- Process, link, and sync Patreon and Stripe memberships
- Operate the fan art gallery, including moderation, visibility limits, and community interactions
- Enable comments, narration, and other features you choose to use
- Send service-related emails (not marketing unless you opt in separately)
- Measure aggregated site usage through analytics
- Prevent abuse, enforce site rules, investigate reports, and keep the service secure
- Comply with legal obligations
Legal bases (EEA, UK, and similar regions)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another region with similar privacy laws, we process personal data on these bases:
Contract — To provide the service you signed up for (account, reading access, membership features).
Legitimate interests — To secure the site, prevent fraud, and improve reliability, balanced against your rights.
Consent — Where required, such as for optional features or non-essential cookies.
Legal obligation — When we must retain or disclose information under applicable law.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information.
We share data only with service providers that help us run Evore Stories, including:
Vercel — Website hosting and Web Analytics
Vercel Blob — Storage of uploaded fan art images at public URLs when shown in the gallery
Neon — Database hosting
Resend (or similar email providers) — Transactional email delivery
Patreon — Membership verification and tier sync when you link your account
Stripe — Payment processing and subscription management when site billing is enabled
Google or X — Authentication, if you choose to sign in with those providers
OpenAI — Optional text-to-speech generation when that narration mode is enabled
Piper or other narration hosts — Optional text-to-speech generation when configured
These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy terms. Fan art you approve for the public gallery is intentionally visible to site visitors through public image URLs. We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a business transfer.
Chapter text is displayed in a protected reader; that does not change the fact that routine technical logging, analytics, and account data processing still occur as described above.
Cookies and local storage
We use:
Session and authentication cookies — To keep you signed in.
Short-lived OAuth cookies — During Patreon or social sign-in flows.
Local storage on your device — For theme preference (light/dark), reading font settings, and optional narration progress in your browser.
Vercel Web Analytics — Collects aggregated usage data without using advertising cookies for basic page-view analytics.
You can clear cookies and local storage through your browser settings. Some features may not work correctly if you disable essential cookies.
How long we keep information
We retain personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. We may keep certain records longer when required for security, dispute resolution, or legal compliance. You may request account deletion by contacting us; some data may be retained in backups or logs for a limited period.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Withdraw consent where processing is consent-based
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
Children's privacy
Evore Stories is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
International visitors
Evore Stories is operated from the United States. If you access the site from outside the U.S., your information may be processed and stored in the U.S. or other countries where our service providers operate. We take steps designed to protect your information in line with this policy.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
